There’s a version of accountability that works. And there’s a version that quietly drives people away.
The good version feels like someone’s cheering you on. The bad version feels like someone checking up on you. The difference, in practice, is often just timing and frequency.
We built Focido around real human motivators because we believe real people are better at this than algorithms. But real people can also overdo it. Three nudges in a day. A ping at 11pm. A message when you’re mid-focus.
None of it is malicious. All of it erodes trust.
v0.3.4 is about fixing that.
Accountability with Visible Rules
Nudge cooldowns
Every task now shows when the next nudge becomes available. Motivators can see it before they tap “nudge.” No more guessing, no more accidentally crossing a line.
Daily nudge limits
There’s a daily limit per task, and its status is visible on the task card. Both the goal-setter and the motivator know where things stand. The rules aren’t hidden – they’re part of the experience.
Custom nudge window
You choose when reminders are allowed to reach you. Set a start time and an end time. Outside of that window, you won’t hear a thing.
These three changes together define the rhythm of accountability: consistent, respectful, and sustainable.
Anonymous Tasks
Some goals are hard to say out loud. A health issue you’re working through. A habit you’re embarrassed about. Something personal that you need help with, but aren’t ready to attach your name to.
Anonymous tasks let you post a goal without revealing who you are. You still get matched with a real motivator. You still get nudges and support. You just don’t have to be visible to get it.
It’s a small feature with a lot of emotional weight.
Motivator Queue, Right Where You Need It
Before, managing motivator requests meant navigating away from the task. Now you can accept or decline motivator requests directly from the task view. The context is there, the action is there, and you don’t lose your place.
Favorites, Profiles, and Discovery
Favorites got split into tabs. People, Tasks, and Clubs each have their own space now. No more scrolling a mixed list to find your accountability partner.
Shareable profile links. Deep links for user profiles, so you can recommend a great motivator in a message, a group, or anywhere else.
Leaderboard that you can explore. Tap any user to view their profile. Find your next motivator from the people who are actually showing up.
Profile Controls
Change your password and adjust visibility settings from your profile screen. They were missing before. Now they’re there.
Fixes and Details That Matter
A few things we cleaned up:
- Smarter motivator notifications (fewer duplicates, more relevant timing)
- App version check via remote config for faster response to critical changes
- Dialogs and sheets that scroll properly on small phones (iPhone SE, compact Androids)
- Switch-user flow now shows progress steps so you know where you are
- Time strings (“1 hour”, “3 hours”, “1 day”, “2 days”) now pluralize correctly in all supported languages
What This Version Is Really About
Accountability is social. Social means other humans are involved. And other humans need clarity about what’s okay.
v0.3.4 is our way of building that clarity into the product itself: visible limits, anonymous options, better controls. The goal isn’t to reduce engagement. It’s to make engagement feel like something people want, not something they’re enduring.
